  Sub Task: Hazards associated with various on board chemicals and their use.

  Aims:

1.     What are the hazards of chemicals on board ship?

2.     What are uses of chemicals onboard ship?

 

Requirement for performing the task:

1.     Reference theory from MEK text book

Precaution to be observed:

1.     Use proper PPE while handling chemicals such as rubber gloves, Goggle,Apron,facemask

2.     Understanding risk involved n each chemical.

3.     Read instruction on container or read MSDS.

4.     Understand first aid should there be an accident

5.     Using proper container.

6.     Ensure that container is not leaking.

CHEMICAL HAZARDS ONBOARD SHIP:

1.     Produce toxic vapor

2.     Burn

3.     Fire

4.     Corrosive

 

USE OF CHEMICALS ONBOARD:

1.     Changing and controlling properties of cooling water for diesel engine.

2.     Changing and controlling properties of boiler water.

3.     Fuel oil treatment.

4.     Cleaning parts.

5.     Testing quality of water.

6.     Fire extinguishing (liquid , powder, or gas)

7.     Forming protective layers in form of paints
